Official opening of western terminal extension

On Monday 19 October, the $4 million extension of Newcastle Airport was officially opened by Newcastle Lord Mayor, Councillor John Tate and Port Stephens Mayor, Councillor Bruce MacKenzie.

The expanded area has provided room for additional check-in desks and offers passengers a bright and light space to enjoy when checking-in for flights.

The terminal extension also included the construction of 750m2 of premium office space on the upper level.

During the construction process the terminal remained fully operational and the project was carried out in multiple stages to minimise disruption to passengers and staff.

Thanks to the new extension, passengers now can enjoy a spacious check-in area and an efficient departure from Newcastle Airport.

Surfs up at Newcastle Airport

For three years Newcastle Airport has offered free wireless internet throughout the terminal for our laptop-toting passengers.  Your feedback told us this was great; but that we also needed internet facilities for our customers travelling without laptops. As a result, last month we installed internet pay-as-you-go internet kiosks in two areas of the terminal.

Look out for the sit-down, user-friendly kiosks in the main promenade (near the ATMs) and in the departure lounge (through security). So now, even if you don’t have a laptop, you can check your emails or surf the net while waiting for flights.

Access to the world wide web via the new kiosks is charged at $2 per 20 minutes. Free wireless is still available throughout the terminal.

Ongoing support of our friends at the Civic Theatre

Newcastle Airport has been the major sponsor of the Civic Theatre’s ‘Inspirations’ Children’s and Education Season for the past two years and is thrilled to continue this partnership in 2010.

Newcastle Airport works closely with the Civic Theatre to introduce the world of theatre to local children.  During the year, students taking part in Newcastle Airport’s own Schools Program were offered free tickets to attend the Civic Theatre Children’s shows – for some students it was their first ever opportunity to experience live performance in a theatre setting.

Our support of the Civic Theatre and children's education is just one of the many ways Newcastle Airport 'gives back' to our community.
