We won!

Newcastle Airport was awarded Gold in the Specialised Tourism Services category at the Tourism NSW Awards.

The Tourism NSW Awards celebrate and acknowledge businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and success throughout the year. Newcastle Airport progressed to the Tourism NSW Awards following its win at the Hunter Tourism awards and is proud to be recognised amongst the state’s best.

The Airport was recognised for enhancing the visitor experience and working closely with local tourism.

Newcastle Airport will now go on to compete at the national awards to be held in 2010.

Flying support for the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation

Newcastle Airport has announced the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation as its Charity of Choice for 2010. In addition to the Airport’s financial commitment it will also host its annual Charity Golf Day and donate the proceeds to the Foundation.

The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation provides support for local people undergoing treatment for breast cancer. It does this by providing transportation for patients, home and yard maintenance during treatment, scholarships for children of families affected by breast cancer and Comfort Cushions for post-operative patients.

All proceeds from the Charity Golf Day, to be held 15 March 2010, will assist the Hunter Breast Foundation in providing their unique Comfort Cushions to more than 550 cancer patients throughout our region each year.

Local schools decorate terminal for Christmas

Newcastle Airport’s terminal walls have been adorned with a myriad of colour and sparkles thanks to the creativity of local schools who have decorated Christmas banners for display.

Schools taking part in the Airport’s Schools Program in 2009 were asked to create a festive banner, which will provide a friendly welcome to the more than 100,000 visitors expected to pass through the terminal during the busy holiday period.

Newcastle Airport would like to thank the teachers and students from the following schools for their efforts:
>        Gillieston Heights Public School
>        Holy Family School Merewether
>        Elermore Vale Public School
>        Medowie Public School

Temporary road closure

Passengers travelling to-or-from Newcastle Airport on Monday 14 December are advised that Comorant Road, Kooragang Island, will be closed from 9.00pm due to works. All traffic will be diverted.

Passengers expecting to be affected by the closure should use Tomago Road or Richardson Road to travel to-or-from Newcastle Airport. Newcastle Airport recommends you factor in additional travel time on this night.

The diversion is expected to be in place until approximately 3.00am; so the road will be back to normal by the following day.

Signage will be in place leading up to the closure to remind motorists using Comorant Road at Koorangang Island of the temporary closure. For more information please click here.
