Aviation research confirms Newcastle Airport is ready to soar

At the end of last year, Newcastle Airport commissioned an aviation research company to provide expert analysis about the future passenger trends and airline expansion opportunities for Newcastle Airport.

Some of the key findings included:

Passengers prefer to fly from Newcastle, and will choose to, if the service is available.

By the end of 2011, domestic opportunities exist for direct services from Newcastle to Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Darwin.

Between 2012 and 2014, international opportunities exist for direct services to New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and south-east Asia.

There is the potential for passenger numbers to double to more than 2 million in the next five years (ie by 2015).

We look forward to using these findings to work towards our goal of growing services from Newcastle Airport.

National Volunteers Week, 10-16 May

Our team of dedicated, helpful and happy Ambassadors will use National Volunteers Week to showcase the wonderful work they do within the Newcastle Airport terminal.

The team of almost 20 volunteers freely give their time to provide information and assistance to incoming and outgoing passengers.

In conjunction with National Volunteers Week, the Airport will also be hosting a celebratory function for the Ambassadors to mark two years since the commencement of this successful program.

Name our new mascot!

As part of the launch of our new educational website, we are asking for help with naming our new mascot. Send your suggestion to admin@newcastleairport.com.au and go in the draw to win five tickets to Wombat Stew at the Civic Theatre Newcastle, 16-19 August.  Entries close Friday 28 May.

For many years Newcastle Airport has conducted a very successful Schools Program, offering a unique and educational insight into the exciting world of air travel. As part of the Program, Newcastle Airport runs behind-the-scenes excursions and provides in-class presentations for kindergarten to year two students.

The Airport is excited to launch a dedicated education website, which has been designed to capture the imagination of students. The easy-to-use, interactive website teaches children about airports. Tools, tips and teaching aids are also provided for teachers and parents.
